WELCOME TO IVES SPACES

Where our space is yours

Ives Spaces are the themed creations of Don and Elena Ives. We believe a change can be good. We hope our themed spaces convey you into a time and place you find unique and inviting. As you relax in the spaciousness of The Historic I. L. Smith House, you are taken back in time, when simple things were treasured and fine craftsmanship was highly esteemed. As you visit the cozy space of our Carriage House, you can experience a contemporary space that was once inhabited by a horse-drawn buggy.  And when you step onto the deck of the Cedars, you will feel yourself being absorbed into the landscape, shaded by titans that rule the forest and nourished by  the cold, clear mountain water that flows beneath them both summer and winter. We trust you will enjoy your stay.

SMITH HOUSE:

This is a sweet respite to anyone who is wanting a get away away from the maddening crowds. We walked down main street and visited the campus of Pacific University. The house is very beautiful, the pictures do not do it justice. Everything about it has been tastefully chosen and designed. We walked around the various rooms and was amazed. We were greeted with a tray of fruit and scones which was perfect for arriving a little bit hungry after a long drive. We made coffee and breakfast in the mornings; the kitchen is a cook's dream. Elena welcomed us and encouraged us to enjoy their home and gardens, which we certainly did.

SMITH HOUSE:

On a 1-5 scale I would give Don & Elena's place a solid 10+. This space left us speechless. It was beautiful and fully equipped throughout. The kitchen was incredible, I wish I had it in my own home. The hostess left us freshly baked breads and jams with whipped butter plus fresh fruit. We devoured it before bed, we couldn’t wait till morning and it did not disappoint. Elena’s hospitality during our stay was quick and outstanding. Prior to our visit they provided us with a detailed PDF of area attractions and restaurants. We’ve been on the road a week staying at different Airbnbs, while they have all been very nice, this one was outstanding. I cannot say enough good things about her place. It was glorious! Thank you so much Elena - we loved staying with you.

SMITH HOUSE:

There is only one thing that could have made this place better - staying longer! Seriously. The I. L. Smith Library Suite was perfectly adorable and adorably perfect. The claw-foot tub in the blue bathroom was everything I'd hoped it would be. There were bath salts, soaps, and lotions, mixed in with antique tins and bottles on the shelves above the tub. And that theme - usable items mixed with antiques - extends to the whole suite. It makes you feel like you're truly a guest - a very pampered guest - in someone's home. Downstairs, there were plenty of snacks, juices, coffee, even a 1/2 gallon of milk and a tub of butter, as well as a big "welcome" sign with my name on it (such a nice touch!). Outside, there were lavender and roses growing along the walk, and berries - just before we arrived, Elena sent a message that the berries were ripe and that we were welcome to pick all we wanted! Also, speaking of lavender and roses, there was a fresh sprig of lavender in a vase in each room, and a rose in the master bedroom. These were all such sweet, homey touches that went beyond what we expected. Don and Elena were amazing hosts, and provided everything that we needed and more! Oh, and this is the suite with a library nook, so you're not going to run out of things to read - there's something for everyone. Really. I read two 1950's children's books and part of Solzhenitsyn's The First Circle. So whether you want to do some light reading or some heavy reading, find a comfortable place to curl up with a quilt and a book at the Library Suite. You won't want to leave!

SMITH HOUSE:

The Smith House is special. It’s like stepping back in time to a gentler era, yet with all the modern comforts. The home is beautifully taken care of and the gardens, chickens and home made bread and jam were incredible. Not to mention handmade beautiful soaps.. so wonderful. The location is wonderful. It’s in a beautiful quiet neighborhood yet walking distance to great restaurants in downtown. We were in town to visit family and they loved coming over and seeing the beautiful historic home. Yet if you’re looking for a great home base for wine tasting this is a one of a kind place to stay. Elena is also a gem of a host, so caring. We highly recommend the Smith house and wish we could have stayed forever.

SMITH HOUSE:

Book now if you love feeling of being in an old historic home. The sound of your feet on the old wooden floor. Sleeping in an antique bed and wondering who was in this room 75 years ago. I appreciate all the extra touches Elena puts into her decor. It was beautiful and an honor to stay there. Talk about getting bang for your buck!!!

CARRIAGE SUITE:

I’m not sure how I continue to be so blessed with exceptional AirBnb experiences, but I sure don’t mind one bit! Don and Elena’s home is stunning from top to bottom. Freshly baked bread and preserves, plenty of coffee, tea and goodies. There’s even a wireless printer in the unit with paper! It made my life SO much easier! Oversized fluffy towels and cozy linens... I had a mini-retreat 😉 LIGHTNING fast response time from Elena, and all instructions were very clear and easy to follow.

CARRIAGE SUITE:

Stylish room, a booklet with full instructions including dining and recreation recommendations, fresh homemade bread and homemade jam, eggs, coffee, milk, blue berries, a printer with paper. Also, a large space with a full kitchen with utensils, and snacks. I met Elena and she was very friendly and welcoming. This was in a historic neighborhood within walking distance of downtown restaurants and businesses as well as my favorite university. Oh, I forgot the deck and the laundry room! Don and Elena must put a lot of time into ensuring each stay is fantastic. I could keep on typing because it is such a fantastic place! It has my highest recommendation.

CARRIAGE SUITE:

The Carriage Suite is a quiet, lovely place in a historic building in walking distance from downtown Forest Grove. It's well furnished and we loved finding a loaf of home-baked bread and brownies on our arrival and a stocked fridge -a thoughtful touch especially when arriving late. Thanks Don and Elena!

CARRIAGE SUITE:

This space was all-around spectacular! From the huge, lovely living room/ kitchen combination to the garden chickens to an insanely wonderful bathroom, this spot is 1 in a million!

THE CEDARS

Me and my group of 7 friends had a wonderful stay at Elena and Don's! Elena was there to greet and welcome us upon check-in and gave us a great tour and all the in's and out's of the place. The place is a bit old-fashioned but it has great charm and was big enough for our group for sure with a large kitchen and two eating areas (three if you count the table outside). One thing we didn't realize is that one of the bathroom features only a bathtub (the master bath has a shower), for 8 people that took a bit more logistics but we worked it out just fine. Elena and Don put awesome and sweet touches on the home like a welcome sign for our group and amenities throughout the home to make us feel comfortable (bath salts, hot drinks, etc). Outdoors, they have a large fire-pit that was awesome to hang around in the evening. We even waded into the creek (it was freezing but refreshing). Nearby (around 30 mins) we found a state park with some outdoor sport options. All around great stay and a spacious home for a get-away.

THE CEDARS:

This house has a creek that runs next to it which softens the road nose. The creek side of the house has a wood deck along its entirety. There is a party size BBQ, a small fire pit and out side speakers all which allow fun and relaxation. Next to it is a grass area that the animals loved. Stairs lead to a deck on the creek where you can relax from the sound. The fire pit in the back provides a good hangout and the exterior is well light. The fire place inside was well worth it as it did rain during our visit. Central heat was spot on for the cool mornings. The interior has lots of sitting space, a spacious kitchen with a large wooden table and a second table in the living room. There is a total of 3 television if you need them. This place is new to the market but the owners are extremely helpful and are continuing to improve on the amenities. Homemade bread and jam was waiting our arrival. Fresh eggs were available in the refrigerator and the pantry had snack food until a store run was initiated. The overall experience was well worth the 8 hour drive. We would definitely stay here again.
